Jailer suspended; he's accused of striking inmate

NewsCentral Staff

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in Hall County say they've suspended a jailer after he was accused of striking a handcuffed inmate.

The suspension comes about a week after a former jailer at the Hall County Jail was charged with using excessive force in connection with a Sept. 8 incident.

The Times of Gainesville reports that the latest allegation stems from an altercation in the jail on Sunday. Hall County sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said the jailer involved has been suspended with pay while authorities investigate the matter.

In late December, authorities charged a former jailer with using excessive force on an inmate on Sept. 8. That former jailer, Dustin Charlton, is accused of punching an unruly inmate in his head after the inmate was under control and in handcuffs.
