JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Police in Clayton County are searching for a 36-year-old man after an officer was hit by a truck and hospitalized in serious condition.

WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/VBkw4N) reports police identified Thomas Paige as the man who hit an officer while he chased a burglary suspect Wednesday.

Police responded to a report of two men stealing metal from behind a department store in Jonesboro. Authorities say Paige got in a black truck and hit the officer before fleeing the scene on foot. The first suspect was taken into custody.

Paige has a criminal history and has been incarcerated four times according to state department of corrections records.

The officer is hospitalized at the Atlanta Medical Center and his identity has not been released.
