Ga. contractor killed in construction accident

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after a construction accident in metro Atlanta.

Alpharetta Police Spokesman George Gordon says the unidentified man was laying pipe in Alpharetta when a backhoe backed over him. Authorities say the man was standing directly behind the backhoe when the accident happened.

Gordon says the man was working on a project for Fulton County Water Services and worked for an Atlanta-based construction company.

The victim's identity has not yet been released and additional information was not immediately available.

Alpharetta is about 25 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
