Friends of Ga. commissioner question how he died

NewsCentral Staff

ST. SIMMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Nearly a month has passed since the body of County Commissioner Tom Sublett was found at a marina near his home on St. Simmons Island, and there's no answer yet to why he died.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that police have said little, other than Sublett's hands were bound in front of him when he was found Dec. 12. He suffered a gunshot to the head, but an autopsy showed he died by drowning.

Friend Duane Harris says he believes Sublett was murdered, but he can't image why.

Former County Commissioner Cap Fendig said he doesn't rule out foul play, but he also knows that depression and mental health issues aren't always visible on the outside.
