NEWTON, Ga. (AP) - Voters will have to wait longer to cast their ballots for the next sheriff in Baker County in southwest Georgia.
Baker County Attorney Tommy Coleman tells the Albany Herald (http://bit.ly/UmlMJ8) that a Jan. 8 election day must be postponed because a judge's ruling in the election is being appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court.
Judge Loring Gray had originally ruled that a new, special runoff election must be held on Jan. 8 between incumbent Baker County Sheriff Dana Meade and challenger Tim Williamson
The judge had ordered the new election after finding that there was sufficient evidence of voting irregularities to cast doubt on the Aug. 21 runoff, which Meade won by 39 votes. Meade appealed, and Coleman says officials will now await a ruling from the court.
