NewsCentral Staff

ATLANTA (AP) - Police in Atlanta are searching for the driver of a hit-and-run crash in which a bicyclist was dragged and then died in the street.

Atlanta police say 54-year-old Walter Amey of Atlanta was hit around 9 p.m. Sunday on Abner Place, not far from his home.

Atlanta police Sgt. Grey Lyon tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that officers and paramedics initially thought Amey had been shot. Lyon said that after examining him, they determined he had been struck by a vehicle and dragged.

Amey was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators early Monday were looking for anyone with information about the crash.
