Body parts of missing man found after Ga standoff

NewsCentral Staff

RINCON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say body parts found inside a south Georgia home after a police standoff are likely those of a missing Savannah man.

Effingham County sheriff's officials said Sunday the remains were discovered after officers shot and killed 34-year-old Chad Moretz of Rincon on Friday. More remains were found in a storage unit in Jasper County, S.C.

A sheriff's spokesman says investigators believe the remains were those of an acquaintance of Moretz, 35-year-old Charlie Ray.

Relatives reported Ray missing on New Year's Eve.

Authorities say Moretz grabbed an assault weapon and took his wife hostage when officers showed up at the residence on Friday. He was killed after she escaped.

Investigators believe Moretz was responsible for Ray's death, but his wife and her brother are charged with concealing a death.
