Board member resigns after SUV collides with teen

NewsCentral Staff

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A Bartow County school board member accused of striking a teenager with her SUV in a dispute over a Walmart parking space has resigned from the school board.

Police say 41-year-old Angela Cornett struck the 17-year-old girl, who was standing in a parking space trying to save it for someone on Dec. 28. Police say the teen and Cornett argued before Cornett hit the girl with her car.

Cornett's attorney, John Mroczko, tells WSB-TV that his client submitted her resignation Thursday to Gov. Nathan Deal and the school system's superintendent.

She faces a charge of reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

Cornett told the Daily Tribune of Cartersville that she never hit the teen and said the girl leaned against her car.

Mroczko says she decided to resign for personal and family reasons.
