ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police are investigating after an officer shot a man after they say he pulled a handgun on the officer.
Authorities say the officer then fired on the man early Thursday morning, behind a Family Dollar store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/RHpoY7) that the officer was responding a call about a prowler around 7 a.m., and spotted the suspect behind the business.
Guerrucci said the suspect pulled a gun, and the officer responded by firing his weapon and striking the man at least twice.
Authorities said the suspect was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. His name wasn't released.
Police say the officer was not injured.
