COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - American Airlines plans to discontinue service to Columbus Airport.
American spokesman Matt Miller tells the Columbus Ledger Enquirer that American will stop its two daily flights between Columbus and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport as of June 11.
American resumed service to Columbus in July 2010, using its American Eagle regional jet service and its 44-seat Embraer aircraft.
Last month, American parent firm AMR Corp. announced a merger with US Airways, with the deal expected to close in the third quarter of this year, just after the Columbus service is discontinued.
Columbus Airport Director Mark Oropeza said he will continue trying to lure another airline to the city, which now will be serviced only by Delta Air Lines. Delta has four to five daily flights into and out of Columbus.
