LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter says he's concerned about the lack of emergency
notification when a defendant removes an electronic ankle monitor.
Authorities say 23-year-old murder suspect Joseph Hunter Hayes removed the device and left his Dahlonega home on Sunday. The
Gwinnett County sheriff's department says deputies found him at a residence in Dawson County. Hayes is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County jail.
Porter says the monitoring company, Lee's Home Confinement, responded appropriately according to the current rules. He says the
system is inadequate. Hayes' attorney, John Steakley, says his client was not trying to flee.
Hayes is charged with murder in the 2007 beating death of 55-year-old Lloyd Lee Harrison of Buford.
