Ga. State U Gets Federal Grant To Help Veterans

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia State University is one of seven colleges nationally to receive a federal grant for an Upward Bound program aimed at helping veterans graduate from college.

The Atlanta university will get a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to run the program. The program offer academic and personal counseling, tutoring, mentoring and refresher courses for veterans who delayed the start of their college careers to serve in the military. The program also will help veterans who never graduated from high school.

Other colleges that received the grant include Henderson State University in Arkansas, Boise State University in Idaho, Yavapai County Community College in Arizona, Suffolk University in Boston, Bemidji State University in Minnesota and Redlands Community College in Oklahoma.
