Prison Guard Accused Of Contraband

Celeste Smith

AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a prison guard has been accused of carrying unspecified contraband into Sumter County Correctional Institution.

Danny Jackson, agent in charge of the GBI in Americus, says 34-year-old James C. Cooper of Smithville was charged Tuesday with violation of oath by a public officer. Jackson says the nature of the contraband has not been disclosed due to the ongoing investigation. A search was conducted at Cooper's home.

Cooper has worked at the southwest Georgia prison for about five years.
