LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department is testing a body screening portal at the county jail
that can detect hidden contraband on inmates.
The jail was selected by the National Institute of Justice to test the Pro Vision body imager, a scanner that uses radio wave
technology to detect items concealed under clothing. Sheriff's department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said they began scanning inmates last week and the testing period will be 90 days.
The portal, which costs about $150,000 and resembles a telephone booth, is currently being used at a number of airports, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
