2.9-magnitude earthquake hits northwest Georgia

DALTON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a small earthquake struck near Dalton, in northwest Georgia.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the quake hit at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday about four miles northwest of Dalton.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that it was a 2.9-magnitude earthquake.

There were no immediate reports of any damage.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier said he wasn't aware of any reports of damage in the city, which is about 85 miles northwest of Atlanta.
