Meet Richard Martin, the proud owner of Martin’s Bar-B-Q on Watson Boulevard. Not long ago, Mr. Martin, just like a lot of us, went to work everyday working for someone else. But after a lot of prayer and careful planning he decided to do something many of us only dream of. He quit…and opened his own business.
“This is a passion of mine. It’s not just necessarily about making it…and making a lot of money. This is what I enjoy doing. But…you know everybody eats. So I think I’ll do fine. If I have great food and great service…I’ll do fine.”
In our short time visiting Martin’s one thing became clear, the secret’s not in the sauce. It’s the passion and love that’s cooked into this bar-b-q that truly makes it special. But just personally speaking he cooks the best brisket I’ve had since Texas.
“I don’t want to tell anybody what to do. And step out on…or leave anything they got that’s more secure than doing this. But…I just want to follow my dream...and my passion. My family is behind me…my friends are behind me…and this is what I wanted to do. What I think about it is…the careers I came from will always be there. And if I never try this I would never know. If this don’t work for some reason…or another…but I know it’s going to work…then I’ve got other things to fall back on.
So…take it from Mr. Martin…don’t just live your dreams while you sleep. Wake up and get to work! And when you need to eat…get to Martin’s.
