NewsCentral's Linnie Supall explains how employers can save some green by going green.
It’s no secret commuter hitting the roads puts a strain on our environment, but now there’s a campaign that’s looking to clean things up.
“The Clean Air Campaign is reaching out to area employers in partnership with the Macon Economic Development Commission to tell them about the incentives and programs available to their commuters,” says Program Manager Kenyon Thweatt.
The Clean Air Campaign is a non-profit organization encouraging employers to cut back the work week or allowing some employees to work from home ultimately saving money for both employers and employees.
“Overall the response from employers has been a positive one. Most employers are seeking ways to ease the stress of the daily commute on their employees. This is also a way for employers to reduce their impact on the environment and also improve the productivity in their organization, employees and improve their bottom line,” added Thweatt.
Right now about $2.5 Million are up for grabs in the form of tax credits for Georgia employers looking to make the switch.
“We're just one of the only states that offers this credit to employers, they get a special credit for starting a telework program. The amount of credit increases the more teleworkers they have. This is an opportunity only for 2011 so employers have to apply this year before the end of October,” says Director Mike Williams.
