Watermelon Capital Speedway Plays Hosts to SpeedFest 2012

Cordele’s Watermelon Capital Speedway has seen one of its biggest crowds Sunday afternoon thanks to Speedfest 2012.
Glen Luckett with Champion Racing association says, “all these people out here for this race it’s great. I think it says a lot to people who want the race track to be here hopefully they won’t just come to this race but continue to come during the season this year to help this race track to get back to where it use to be.”
Just ten days ago Watermelon Capital Speedway found out that CRA wanted to kick off its season at their track. This is the first time ever that Cordele has played host to Speedfest.
Donnie Jones with Watermelon Capital Speedway says, “it’s a big thing for the community too we have a lot of big racers here.”
They hope with the big turnout it will not only help improve the local economy but also bring life back to their home race track.
Jones says, “it means a lot to us ...we're hoping it will help boost the economy around here , help the track itself with more fans more people coming out more racers things of that nature.”
Because of Speedfest local race fans noticed the energy around Cordele and hope to see this race event return to Watermelon Capital Speedway.
Local Resident Brittany Crus says, “We live so close by that we can just drive on over come see the race we don’t have to drive too far. Its looks like its bringing a lot of attention to Cordele.”
