A long-serving Houston County Board of Education member had his final meeting Tuesday.

Tom Walmer recently announced he is resigning after 11 years on the board. Walmer says he's glad to have been a part of a leading edge school system and was proud of the progress it made. When asked about which personal accomplishment he was most proud of, Walmer said it was not just the work of one person.

"Everything we have done has been through the board and our cooperation and working not only with each other in a hospitable and respectful way, but also with the superintendent and staff and realizing what our role is," said Walmer.

During his 11 years, Walmer served five as chairman.
