Vigil Held for Murdered Teen

NewsCentral Staff

Earlier in the week Bibb County had its first homicide of the year when 18 year old Shy Daniels was struck in the head by a bullet in her father's home while innocently playing a video game, The bullet came from outside, the motive is unknown but it's unlikely the teen who had recently graduated high school and was preparing for college, was the intended target.

"The homicide we had was truly tragic, it seems to be one of those random things that happens. We're backtracking to see if anybody who may have had a problem with anybody at that house. We're asking for anybody that may know anything and can connect someone to this crime, we want to know and we're going to get to the bottom of it and find out who is responsible for this terrible crime." -Chief Deputy David Davis/Bibb Co. Sheriff's Office

Tonight a special candlelight vigil was held in Shy Daniel's honor, organized by a man she'd never met who had simply heard the tragic story.

"So we wanted to get together tonight to show them that the loss of any child especially with such a bright future such as herself is a loss to our community. We always talk about the bad kids in our community but we got a young lady who got accepted to college, she graduated high school, she's just 18 years old and instead of spending time with her family she got struck down in the prime of her life so we want the family to know that we are standing here with them and let them know that Macon cares...all of Macon." -Frank Dixon/Peacekeepers

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation which is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
