NewsCentral Staff

A woman is dead after fire breaks out in her Fort Valley apartment.

It happened Tuesday morning at the Valley Pines Apartments. WGXA has confirmed the victim is 65-year-old Charlie Mae Rogers. Our media partner The Telegraph reports the cause of death was smoke inhalation.

Public Safety Director Lawrence Spurgeon says when fire crews arrived on scene, Rogers wasn't responding to authorities.

The fire reportedly started in the kitchen. Spurgeon says damage to the complex was contained to Rogers' apartment.
