Unknown Suspect Kills Baby Calf

NewsCentral Staff

Last weekend John Walker moved some of his cows from his pasture off lower poplar street across the street to his other pasture when a newborn calf got separated from the group. The calf stayed in that area of lower poplar over the weekend.

On Monday two Macon Water Authority employees were working on a sewage line further down the road. Around 10:00 AM they heard a gun shot. The newborn calf lay dead on the side of the road with a single small caliber gunshot wound to the head.

"A baby calf is the most defenseless animal there is out there. I can't imagine nobody doing that. Just shot him in the head and killed him right out and just left him there." -John Walker/Farm Owner

One point of concern for law enforcement is the theory that often when people do things like this to defenseless animals, they eventually move on to humans.

"Hopefully they feel bad about it. So if they feel bad about it, its a good indicator they won't do something like this again. If its something they did pretty impulsively and they don't car and it doesn't matter to them, they could escalate from there." -Bruce Conn/Coliseum Center for Behavioral Health

"A person that would go around and kill an innocent animal for no reason at all....he needs to be punished somehow or other and we'd be willing to give a reward to somebody if they could give us some evidence that would get somebody convicted of this crime." -John Walker/Farm Owner

The Macon Police are investigating the crime, anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
