Unionville worker dedicates Christmas lunch to seniors

NewsCentral Producer

A Macon man is making sure seniors in his community have a delightful Christmas this year.

Melvin Flowers, a service worker at the Frank Johnson Rec Center in Unionville has been organizing a Christmas luncheon for seniors for the past ten years. The luncheon includes live music, food, and an opportunity to visit with community leaders.

Flowers says many older people don't get an opportunity to get out of the house often, so it's important to show them a good time.

"they did it for they [sic] kids, and you know when they get to the point in life when they have to do it on their own, you got to get someone to do it for you, and that's what i want to do, and I want to continue to do this for as long as i live," Flowers said.

Around 150 people were served lunch at the rec center today. Flowers says all food and supplies were donated by the community.
