Area counties are coming together to buy properties in encroachment areas around Robins Air Force Base.
Bibb, Houston and Peach counties signed an agreement on Friday. Bibb and Houston counties are allocating $6 million using SPLOST dollars, while Peach county is allocating $400,000.
Bibb Commission Chairman Sam Hart says signing the agreement now will help when the next BRAC comes around.
"What the Air Force wants is for you to get at least residents from in those areas out, so that if a crash were to occur, it would not harm residents within those areas. We're trying to purchase those homes in those areas," said Hart.
93 parcels have been purchased so far. Officials hope that by the next two years, all of the properties will be purchased.
