Suburban county expresses interest in Falcons stadium

ATLANTA (AP) - Clayton County officials say they have prime land near Atlanta's airport where a new stadium for the Atlanta Falcons could be built if the team can't work out a deal for a downtown Atlanta site.

Clayton County Commission Chairman Jeff Turner said tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the land would be a great site. He said the county is interested in entering discussions about how to bring the new stadium to the county just south of Atlanta if the NFL team can't work out a deal to build it in the city.

The team's current lease with the Georgia Dome downtown is nearing an end, and team officials say they prefer to build a new stadium instead of making improvements to the dome.
