NewsCentral Staff

Hill top elementary students are learning through a digital camera lens. Hill Top Elementary Teacher Heather Riley says, “By using the camera they can capture those images and teachers can pull them up on the screen or they can print them and further classify and group the pictures.”

Thanks to a one thousand dollar grant for the Delve into Digital Project, students are able to learn through photography. Riley says this will not only help students learn but also build their confidence.

“I feel like it will grasp their attention when they get to use technology like a digital camera. They may not be able to understand the words but if they are able to have hands on activities. The cameras will help them to understand what they are doing, “said Riley.

Riley’s students already started using the camera’s to learn about inherited characteristics. And considering how far in advanced kids are with technology now days, Riley says using the cameras was not a challenge for her students.

“Children are so far advance with technology. When I opened up the camera today it was already charged I just gave it to them, told them what I wanted them to do and immediately they ran with it, “said Riley.

Riley also says she believes these cameras will benefit all the students in each grade.
