Severe Storms Leave Behind Damage, Power Outages

Thursday's weather across central Georgia provided something for everyone. From dangerous heat and humidity to severe storms, it also provided a lot of weather for our team of meteorologists to track.
Severe storms erupted just after 6 p.m. Thursday evening and quickly exploded into a complex of storms over Bibb, Houston and Peach counties. Packed with torrential rain, intense lightning, damaging winds and large hail, the storms blew through and faded as quickly as they formed, but not before leaving their mark on the region.
NewsCentral received numerous reports of trees down across several counties including Bibb, Houston, Jones, Peach and Upson. Papa's Market on Gray Highway on the Bibb and Jones county line suffered damage to their awning as the storms blew through.
The severe weather also left thousands in the dark. At the height of the storms, Georgia Power reported over 2,000 customers in the dark in the Shurling Drive area of Macon and 1,200 outages in the Gordon area of Wilkinson county. According to Georgia Power, they hope to have all outages restored by Friday morning. Houston county was also hit hard. Flint Energies reported over 4,000 members in the dark at the height of the storms.
The storms also interrupted play at the Little League Softball Southeast Regional tournament in Warner Robins. Georgia’s first game in the tournament was postponed Thursday night because of thunderstorms in the area.
According to our team of meteorologists, isolated storms will remain in the forecast for the next several days, any of which could quickly become strong or severe.
