The Bibb County District Attorney's office released this photo of Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton. The photo appears to support his story that he believed Sammie Davis Jr. was slitting his throat with a knife when he shot Davis three times in the chest, killing him.

Sammie Davis Probe Files Released

NewsCentral Producer

The Bibb County prosecutor's office released investigative files Wednesday in the December police shooting of Sammie Davis Jr.

On Tuesday, Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke proclaimed that Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton was justified in fatally shooting Davis when he believed his own life was being threatened.

The Dec. 21 shooting was first investigated by the Macon Police, which turned over its investigation to Cooke. He immediately called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an independent investigation of the shooting. They game him the case on Feb. 28, and Cooke cleared Sutton of any criminal charges on Tuesday.

This is the first time the files have been released to the public.
