SAFE House Designed to Protect Pets and Animals In Case of Disaster

NewsCentral Staff

A Central Georgia College celebrates a ribbon cutting on a facility designed to house animals in case of emergency.

The State Animal Facility for Emergencies (SAFE) is now open on the campus of Fort Valley State University.

80 cats, 105 dogs and up to 30 horses can be housed here in case of any disaster.

It’s the first of its kind in the nation built exclusively for the purpose of sheltering animals in an emergency situation.

The Safe House will also serve as a teaching and educational site for Fort Valley students and government officials.
