Robins Air Force Base medic earns medal for Afghan service
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AP) - An Air Force medical officer stationed in Georgia is being honored for his service in Afghanistan.
Robins Air Force Base officials say 1st Lt. Brian Johnson is scheduled to be awarded a Bronze Star medal during a ceremony Friday at the base in middle Georgia.
Johnson serves with the base's 78th Medical Group and is being honored for his service as executive officer for a military surgical team in Afghanistan. Base officials say Johnson helped treat more than 250 wounded patients while deployed overseas. He also helped oversee health care being provided to more than 5,000 people serving in coalition and Afghan forces.
Established in 1944, the Bronze Star medal is awarded to military service members for heroic or meritorious service in a combat zone.
