One retired postal worker has won a sweet Georgia Lottery prize on Valentine’s Day. Richard Jones of Gray won a $50,000 top prize playing the popular instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic.

Jones claimed his prize Thursday at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Macon.

“I friend of mine went to the store on his lunch break, and I gave him money to bring a ticket back,” said, Jones, 49. “I scratched it at home.”

After discovering his prize, Jones said he called his friend to share the good news of his windfall.

“I couldn’t believe it. I feel great,” the lucky winner said.

Jones, who retired from the U.S. Postal Service eight years ago, anticipates making Valentine’s Day plans since winning his prize.

“I may go out to dinner,” he shared.

Chevron Market, 1257 Riverside Drive in Macon, sold the lucky ticket.
