Reichert Releases Statement on Davis Case

Mayor Robert Reichert releases a statement on Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke's findings on the Sammie Davis, Jr. investigation.

Statement about the District Attorney’s Decision : The Mayor met with the Macon Police Department following Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke’s press conference in which he announced no criminal charges would be filed against Officer Clayton Sutton. A press conference with Mayor Robert Reichert and the Macon Police Department is being arranged about the next steps in the process.

“This is a tragic event for the families of everyone involved, especially those grieving the loss of a loved one,” says Mayor Reichert. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with those directly connected, and our hearts remain heavy at the loss of life.”

“Now that the District Attorney has determined there was no criminal misconduct, we will conduct an internal Shooting Review and an analysis of whether all applicable Macon Police Department policies and procedures were followed,” says Deputy Chief Mike Carswell.

This internal process is expected to take ten days to two weeks and will be followed by an announcement of the findings. It will also include how we can improve community relations, especially as it relates to the Macon Police Department.
