Reichert Addresses Davis Death

Macon Mayor Robert Reichert addresses the public safety committee of Macon City Council about the shooting of Sammie "Junebug" Davis Jr by Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton late last year.
That case is now in the hands of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
"They are still waiting on the results of forensic tests. When those reports are received and only after those reports are received will the results of the investigation be turned over to the District Attorney." -Mayor Robert Reichert
Its been argued that if Officer Sutton had access to a Taser that Davis would be alive today. Currently the only Macon Police Officers equipped with tasers are members of the SWAT team but that will soon change.
"There's 60 tasers in the budget. They're at a cost of approximately $94,200 They are going on and getting them now so they can be issued. They'll be issued to all the Sergeants on the department." -Mike Burns/Macon Police Chief
Depending on the GBI's investigation into the fatal police shooting, Sutton could face criminal charges.
"If the DA determines that there's no criminal misconduct, then and only then will the procedure drop down to the Macon Police Department and internal affairs to conduct their shooting review to determine whether or not any disciplinary action needs to be taken in this case and there you would look at not just this incident but the record of this police officer." -Mayor Robert Reichert
