It's national heart month and a regional hospital is bringing awareness to keeping the muscle healthy.
More than a dozen people participated in the third "Try-a-Tri " on Saturday at the Wellness Center in Macon. The triathlon is part of the month long "Heart Fest" sponsored by the Medical Center of Central Georgia to bring awareness about heart disease, the number leading cause of death for men and women according to The Centers for Disease and Control. Event organizers said they want to stress the importance of exercise as a way to prevent heart problems.
"By offering these small invitational events to the community as well as our members we hope to get people in fitness and therefore decrease the number of heart incidents that happen each year,” event organizer Lisa Seneker said.
The hospital will host a Zumba party at the Wellness Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
