Frank Reeves, the man accused of felony murder in the shooting death of a Jones County woman in a Gray Highway gas station, is expected to leave jail Friday after a Bibb County judge granted him bond.

Reeves, 73, is now being held on a $100,000 bond, set Thursday during a hearing before Judge Edgar Ennis. Reeves had previously been denied bond.

Under Georgia law, Reeves will have to put up only 12 percent of the bond, or $12,000, to leave the jail.

Ennis set stipulations that Reeves wear an electronic ankle bracelet and always be the in company of an adult family member. His lawyer says a member of his family has volunteered to fill that role.

Also, Reeves will have to stay in his house except for trips to a doctor, and he can't have access to firearms.

Ennis's bond order had not been signed as of Friday morning. Reeves' family is expected to post his bond as soon as the order was complete.

Reeves was in his wheelchair when it apparently collided on Dec. 4 with a car driven by Linda Hunnicutt, 65 of Jones County, at a Gray Highway gas station. When Hunnicutt got out of her vehicle, Reeves allegedly pulled a gun and shot her in the chest.

Reeves was indicted by a Bibb County Grand Jury on charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, and felony murder.

During Reeves' first bond hearing, bond was denied by Judge Howard Simms, who noted that Reeves, a stroke victim, was unpredictable. Simms also noted that Reeves' family had begun guardianship proceedings in the days before the shooting.

“I believe that (Reeves' bond) should have been lower, but we are not shocked at the amount of the bond,” said Veronica Brinson, who servers as Frank Reeves defense attorney. “I believe that the judge was reasonable as he thought he could be.”
