NewsCentral Staff

Saturday will be a bad day for bambi as hunters head to the woods.

October 20th is the beginning of firearm hunting season and now is the perfect time to talk about safety. Rangers suggest hunters using tree stands to take time to inspect the stands for wear, rust or rot. And to never load your weapon until getting in your stand. And of course its also important to wear your orange.

"Tomorrow there's going to be a lot of people in the woods. You wear your fluorescent orange. You need to wear 500 square inches of fluorescent orange above your waist and its got to be on an outside garment" -John Harkins\Conservation Corporal

The firearm hunting season continues through January 1st in the northern zone of the state and January 15th in the southern zone.
