Warner Robins Air Logistics Center commander Major General Robert McMahon provided an update on all the OSHA citations that they received last year.
McMahon says, “Today we have mitigated at least from the perspective from both people here on base as well as OSHA, 36 of 39 citations. We have two of those citations that are due to be mitigated by October in compliance and conjunction with what OSHA asked us to do.”
The citations were predominately focused on the presence of chromium, lead and other contaminants. McMahon says they are working hard to make sure that they are doing everything right to insure the safety of the people there and fixing the entire industrial complex and not just the 39 citations.
McMahon says, “The most important resource we have at this base is our people and we have committed together that we are going to have a safe and secure work environment for those folks and we are aggressively working that correction.”
Major General Robert McMahon also says they now have the resources to rapidly test for contaminants by swiping samples.
Many employees at the center have noticed the hard work and the improvements since OSHA cited them.
Now, they really enforce the use of personal protective equipment and employees say they have noticed a difference in their health and feel that they work in a safe environment.
Earl Mann says, “Everybody is being in compliance we are sustaining tremendously.”
“Since we went to sanding in a regulated area I don’t even have to use my inhalers because the air is so much thinner and better in here you can really tell difference,” said. Barbara Boston.
