When you hear the term ‘melee’, you think of a fight that is larger than life. That's exactly what some bar hoppers witnessed last Friday in downtown Milledgeville.

9-1-1 Caller (1:33 a.m.): “Baldwin 9-1-1 : There is about to be a fight right in front of the Brick right in the middle of town"

Milledgeville Police Major John Davis says more than 400 people filled Hancock Street as a massive fight broke out.

"There was a large crowd that had spread out from the Asian bistro.”

Police say as many as 150 people were fighting only moments after leaving the nightspot.

Bar Manager Charlie Rearick at Asian Bistro told WGXA’s Amber Jones, "It wasn't crazy in here. There was an argument and then they all filtered outside."

By the time authorities arrived on the scene they, were just trying to get things under control. No arrests were made that evening.

Major Davis pointed out that, “It's very difficult to pin point who and what was responsible for it and at that time public safety was more important that making an arrest."

Just when police officers were getting things quieted down, another large fight broke out.

9-1-1 Caller (1:45 a.m.): “I need to report an altercation. We are in downtown Milledgeville right in front of the Shoppes in Milledgeville and there is about to be another fight. All black males.”

With the restaurant being just down the street from Georgia College, campus police responded to the area, along with the Police, Sheriff, and Georgia State Patrol.

Police say this type of behavior needs to be avoided.

"We have already spoken to the owner of the Asian Bistro to make sure that is taken care of in the future."

The Milledgeville Police Department says combining small quarters with overly intoxicated people will usually result in similar fashion to Asian Bistro. The police department and Asian Bistro owners say they'll do whatever it takes to avoid any type of fight in the area in the future, especially a melee.
