Police Involved Fatal Shooting Sends Kroger Shoppers Scrambling

Macon Police are investigating a police-involved fatal shooting Friday afternoon at a popular grocery store that sent shoppers scrambling.

It happened at the Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue around 3:45 Friday afternoon.

Witnesses say a Macon Police Officer drew down and fired on a man, hitting him with at least one round.

According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, there was one fatality in the incident. The victim has been identified as Sammie Davis, Jr. Jones says he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Macon Police, Officer Clayton Sutton, who has worked in the Macon Police Department for over six years, has been placed on Administrative Leave, which is standard policy when an officer is involved in an investigation of this nature.

According to Macon Police Chief Mike Burns, when the C.I.D. case file is complete, it will be sent to the Bibb County District Attorney's Office for a final review.
