Dublin High School Goes Solar
"We will now allow Dublin High to claim the title of greenest high school in Georgia...and not because of its shamrock."
It's true, Dublin High School, home of the Fighting Irish, is about to get even more green....thanks to these solar panels.
The solar panels, made locally by MAGE Solar Group. will soon be installed on the school's rooftop.
On an overcast day like today the solar panels would function at about 50% efficiency but with the mild temperature that would still cover nearly 100% of Dublin High School's power use.
"It'll show how solar power can save us a lot of money and hopefully a lot of different places around the state will see this and follow the example that we're trying to set." -Rusty Henderson/Dubliner
"Solar is starting to grow across the whole country. And even across Georgia its starting to grow. But hopefully this will accelerate that growth and make people take a look at it and consider what solar can do for them." Joe Thomas/CEO of MAGE Solar USA
Laurens County officials say once installed, the panels will generate 1 Megawatt of solar energy. With expected energy savings, the high school will be able to reduce the number of furlough days to a minimum and save critically needed teaching positions.
