People drop-off old prescription drugs at local Wal-Mart

NewsCentral Staff

Local law enforcement and the U.S Drug Enforcement Agency teamed up to “take back" unused prescription drugs.

The Bibb Sheriff's Office and the DEA set up boxes outside of Wal-Mart on Zebulon Road on Saturday for people to drop off their expired, unused or unwanted prescriptions. The event is part of a national drug take back initiative. Thousands of prescriptions were dropped off on Saturday and many people say they are happy the sheriff's office is putting on the event.

"I thought this would be so much better than putting them in the trash can or flushing them down the toilet and I really appreciate ya'll doing it” local JoAnn Hahn said.

Last year more than 50 pounds of prescription drugs were turned in at the Bibb County drop off and nearly 7,000 pounds were collected throughout the state.
