A Middle Georgia organization is giving a present to people recycling Christmas trees.
Keep Warner Robins Beautiful is hosting its 22nd annual "Christmas Tree Round Up." The organization kicked off the event the day after Christmas. People can drop off trees to be chipped and turned into mulch for the city and county to use in park flower beds. Organizers said they already have six tons of mulch which is three more than last year. Volunteers hope to recycle more than 1,000 trees during the event.
"One of the issues every community has with their storm drains is getting clogged and primarily that is limbs, and leaves and pine needles. So if we can keep those out of the drains, we can keep our underground infrastructure flowing freely,” Keep Warner Robins Beautiful Executive Director Debra Jones said.
People dropping off trees received a seedling to plant. If you still have a tree, you can continue to drop off them off in front of the water tower off Watson Boulevard until Friday.
