"My son never had a prior or anything. He worked. He worked down here at Zaxby's. They picked him up from his job." -Beverly DeShazier/Concerned Parent

Beverly DeShazier spent several hours in front of Macon City Hall Thursday holding a sign which reads "Greg Winters D.A. and his office is falsely imprisoning my son in Jones County LEC"

DeShazier's son, Devin Freeman was the second person indicted in the shooting death of 28 year old Stephen Jackson. Jackson was shot several times in the back at the corner of Ell and Chappell streets on October 6th of last year

I spoke with District Attorney Greg Winters and he says that Freeman is being held in Jones County. The reason for that is to keep him separate from the other suspect in the case who's being held in the Bibb LEC.

"I don't have any money to get a good lawyer and I feel like my son threatened to harm himself? Yeah I'm gonna come out and do what I got to do to save his life and to save mine as well." -Beverly DeShazier/Concerned Parent

DeShazier claims her son did nothing wrong and is illegally being held because he refused to testify against Brandon Morrall, the other suspect indicted in the murder.

"They wanted him to testify. Since he wouldn't, they picked him up on an indictment, brought him down to the Detective Bureau, and took him down to Jones County." -Beverly DeShazier/Concerned Parent

And that's where he will likely stay for a while as Freeman was denied bond for the second time Thursday.
