Overcrowding at Bibb Animal Welfare leads to more Euthanizations

Amber Jones

Bibb County Animal Welfare faces challenges daily when it comes to euthanizations.

Steve Layson, the interim director says they receive calls several times a day of dangerous dogs throughout the county.

Every week on Wednesday Bibb Animal Welfare has to make sure they do not exceed capacity for the shelter, sometimes calling for euthanizations and this week is no exception.

"We have gotten calls all week about dangerous dogs,” said Steve Layson who serves as the Bibb County Chief Administrative officer and the Interim Animal Welfare Director. “People are concerned about their safety, their children's safety and their pet’s safety. We have to go out and catch these animals. We can’t just say, we’re full." Layson adds that animals being euthanized this week are not adoptable.

If you would like to adopt another animal at the shelter call 478-751-9200.
