Tuesday saw good news coming from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. According to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, overall crime has decreased almost 10%. That's following the release of 2012 crime data.
The largest decrease shown was in commercial burglaries which were down nearly 30%. Auto theft, home burglary and entering autos were also down. Personal robberies were also down 20% in 2012.
On the other end of the spectrum, commercial robberies were up over 57%. A large part of that increase is attributed to a total of 8 robberies that occurred at the X-Mart Adult Superstore.
Sheriff Davis told WGXA, "that the clearance rate of the personal and property crimes by the Bibb Sheriff’s Office are above the national average."
According to a news release, the Bibb Sheriff’s Office cleared 64% of the crimes against persons; the national average cleared is 48%. The Office also cleared 34% of the property crimes; the national average is 15%.
Sheriff Davis tells WGXA that he "attributes this success to the hard working deputies and dedicated community involvement."
