Ocmulgee Drowning Death Update

Amber Jones

One Decatur Man drowns in the Ocmulgee River Thursday Evening.

Asfar Jeffery, 41, drowns around 7:40 at Frank Amerson Water Park.

Jeffery Asfar, who could not swim, went back into the water after being told that the park would be closing.

The brother of Asfar, Asad Jeffery, noticed his brother’s struggle in the water and made an attempt to save him, causing both men to struggle in the water.

The park attendant was able to save Asad Jeffery by throwing an inner tube into the river. Asad Jeffery was able to grab onto the inner tube and was pulled back to the shore, but his brother, Asfar Jeffery did not come back up from under the water. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s Recue Dive Team recovered the body very close to the area where Asfar went under.

According to Coroner Leon Jones, an autopsy will not be performed.
