It went from a sign up list with one hundred and fifty names to a group of two hundred volunteers. This year’s annual Ocmulgee Alive! river clean up was considered a huge success.
School organizations, church groups, and individuals came out to the rotary park Saturday morning to clean up the river, and make Macon beautiful.
“I think that if everybody in Macon did their part the town could grow to the potential I think most Maconnites believe it has.” –Erich Peschel
“Ocmulgee alive 2010!”
Groups dragged back dozens of bags of trash and litter from down at the river and around Macon’s downtown streets.
“We thought we'd be down by the river cleannig up, but because there was such a good turn out, we ended up cleaning up the city.” –Will Bentley
The long morning even tired some people out, but it won’t keep them from coming back next time.
“He's tired...” –Kyle and Drew Bentley
“And are you going to do events like this in the future?”
“Absolutely.” –Will Bentley
“Will you do things like this in the future?”
“Definitely, I can't wait for more experiences like this.” –Caroline Ware/9th Grader
And everyone walks away from today's clean up feeling good, especially Boy Scout Casey Hamilton.
“I think we made a big impact because it’s very good to help and it’s good to give back to the community and I don't mind helping because it’s what a boy scout does.” –Casey Hamilton/Troop 222
