Northeast field house to be named after former student athlete Al Lucas

NewsCentral Staff

The Northeast High School field house will be named for former student athlete Albert "Al" James Lucas during a ceremony at the school on Thursday, March 21, at 3 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at the field house behind the Lasseter Building along Upper River Road.

The Board of Education voted in January to approve a request to name the field house at Northeast High School after Mr. Lucas.

Upon his graduation from Northeast High School, Lucas attended Troy State University in Alabama on a full football scholarship. Lucas also played professional football with the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Carolina Panthers.

When Lucas died on April 10, 2005, he was a player for the Arena Football League's Los Angeles Avengers.

He is the late son of State Rep. David Lucas and Macon City Councilwoman Elaine Lucas.
