New name, citation fees approved for Macon-Bibb animal control

NewsCentral Staff

Big changes are coming to animal control after commssioners approved several items on Tuesday concerning the department.

Commissioners approved a name change, citation fees, the three new positions at the facility. Independent Consultant Deborah Biggs says they eliminated two vacant animal control officer positions to create three shelter staff positions. Biggs says this will ensure kennels are cleaned on a daily basis, something she says is most important.

"The reorganization of the department will ensure that the kennels get clean on a daily basis, cleaner than what they have been on weekends and holidays. We have the same amount of money, but additional staff," said Biggs.

Biggs says another change is for people who come to pick up their animal after it was captured. They'll now have to pay a citation fee. She says the new fees could add up to over $10,000 per year in additional income.
