A 60-million dollar investment is expected to create 35 jobs in Washington County.
Governor Nathan Deal announced General Biofuels Georgia is planning to build a wood pellet manufacturing plant in Sandersville. The company says it's the perfect location due to the large amount of timber in the area.
"The timber resources are abundant, the workforce is capable and motivated and the transportation system from Sandersville to the Port of Savannah will be tremendously advantageous. We look forward to joining the Washington County business community," said founder and chairman for General Biofuels Ruby Sahiwal in a press release.
General Biofuels Georgia signed a long-term contract with a major European company. Pellets from the plant will be loaded into railcars for transport by the Sandersville Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railway to the Port of Savannah for intermediate storage and trans-load to ocean-going ships.
Production is scheduled to start in early 2014.
